Thailand has a great variety of animal all over the country, but one of the most fascinating animals in Thailand is the Muntjac or also known as the Barking Deer. They are quite a weird looking animal, sort of a cross between a deer and maybe a dog.The males have small antlers which hey do fight with, but do like to fight with there tusks instead. These animals are mainly in rural Thailand, but I seen a lot when I was on holidays in Khao Sok. Sometimes if you are quite you can get close to these animals, but they do prefer to stay away from humans most of the time. There are a few different species that can be found in Thailand, but they all look very simular anyway. On my trip in Khao Sok, I did see about close to 40 or 50 of them around. SO there must be quite a lot here. When I was in Chiang Mai I only seen 1 which was disappointing as it did also run away and I did not get the chance to really look at it. A lot of the Muntjac found in Thailand is in Khao Sok in Surat Thani. The Muntjac deer is known to be around for nearly 40 million years as remains have been found in Poland, Germany and France that date back this far. While they may of originally came from Europe many years ago, the present day species are now native to Thailand and South East Asia but also can be found now in many other parts of the world. I think they look really beutiful and are usually in a baige or tan color. So if you want to see the Muntjac or the Barking Deer, I would say go to Khao Sok as it wont be hard to find them there in wild.
