Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Is living in Belize more expensive than where you are now? Well the answer to that question will vary accordingly where you live exactly. Could it really be the ideal place for you to retire or a place to stay for the rest of your days? It will all depend on what you are going to do in Belize. For people who want to start living in Belize, just like any other place, there are affordable and there are expensive prices to pay for land properties in Belize. However there are still those that are decent and affordable to any budget. Belize is an entire country with islands found in the tropics that have been significantly developing over the years. There are a lot of imported things that you may have to pay a little bit more than what you could get cheap on your native country. Although, there are a lot of cheaper things too compared to what you already have, wherever you are living in right now. A good example is maintaining a vacation home in Belize, which is particularly cheaper than any other Caribbean beaches out there. Gardeners, maids and other laborers would pretty much get paid about $15 - $20 a day, compared to a person who works at a grocery store in the US where they get paid $10-$13 per hour. A caretaker would cost around $100 or more for a month just to watch over your vacation pad. That is a whole lot cheaper, and yet these people could live modestly by their means. Food would of course differ depending on where you are in Belize. Getting around the place and knowing certain things would help of course. Locals would know where it is cheaper to have lobster for dinner and purchase local grocery supplies at reasonable prices. If living in Belize is really what you are after, then houses would come in different price ranges. It's just up to you to get a good deal. And once you do that, you'll never be disappointed. Cars in Belize are slightly cheaper, particularly used cars. In the northern part of Belize, you can cross the border and head to Mexico to purchase other things you can't find. After getting the idea of wages in Belize, it may set others off to work in the country. Entertainment and leisure will cost much if you do it often; and since the country is focused on nature and wildlife preservation, it would be a nice respite for people used to city life. Moving from the city to paradise will definitely have some trade-offs. And since we human beings are capable of adjusting easily to our environment, it would be relatively easy to get used to life here. Of course, these places are suitable for adventure-seekers and nature-lovers who wouldn't mind the absence of certain luxuries. You can live very comfortably in Belize. It is just up to you how you plan to spend your money. Typically, there are things that won't come cheap and there are those that will. And where better to do it than in this tropical paradise?
