The province of Alberta saw jobs grow by 10,000, and a report by the Conference Board of Canada says the economic recovery in the state will solidify in 2011 with 72,000 new positions expected to be created in the province. The Conference Boards Provincial Outlook-Spring 2010 reportreleased Monday reported that strong labour markets will also push theunemployment rate down to 6.3 per cent and energy investment will continue todrive growth. The report said activity in the construction andmanufacturing industries will really pick up speed in 2011, while the miningindustry will continue to play a big part in pushing the province's GDP nextyear. "We do believe that at least the recession in Albertais over. 2009 was the worst contraction in terms of real GDP that Alberta'sseen since they started recording provincial data," said Todd Crawford,economist with the conference board. "We do feel that this year coming out of the recession,companies may still be a little bit cautious in terms of their investment intentions.We do expect by 2011 the wrinkles to be ironed out," he said. Conference Board of Canada is forecasting 23,000 jobs to becreated in the province this year, but the unemployment rate will remainelevated at 6.8 per cent in 2010.
