But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w
For a less physically strenuous tour than a hike along the Inca Trail or into the heart of the Amazon, but one that will still take you to new heights and feed your curiosity for pre-Inca cultures, book a three day tour that begins with the beautiful Paracas Bay marine reservation and continues to the ancient and mysterious Nazca Lines. Just south of Lima, these sites are well-researched and well-preserved. Paracas, influenced by the Chavin culture, is in many ways similar to the Nazca culture, as the impressive Candelabra figure near the Ballestas Islands shows. Paracas Bay itself is a gorgeous, sunny haven for plankton, which feeds a number of fish and marine life such dolphins, turtles, squids, and Humbolt penguins. Begin your tour by riding from Lima by coach, arriving in Paracas Bay in the afternoon. You will be free to explore the beach or relax in your hotel. It is recommended that you take a tour of the Paracas cultural museums. Not only is the Bay home of fascinating pre-Inca (Chavin) culture, but it is also where the liberator José de San Martín began his march for independence from Spain. In the evening, you might take a sunset hike along the chalky cliffs to see the interesting rock formations along the coast. In the morning, after breakfast, you will tour the Islas Ballestas. Now a World Heritage Site, these lively islands are full of fascinating ecosytstems, from sea lion communities to Humbolt penguins. The highlight of your excursion will be the Candelabra, or Candlestick, a 50m-long gylph believed to relate to the Nazca Lines. It´s best to view both the Candelabra and the Nazca Lines so that you can decide for yourself whether they are of the same origins. For lunch you will head to the sandy desert town of Huacachina, which is famous for its sandboarding. Afterwards, you will head on to Nazca, where you will be free to explore the town for the evening. After having breakfast in your hotel, you will take a tour of the famous Nazca Lines. First youll learn about the history of the Nazca people and hear some of the theories some more convincing than others about the purpose of the lines. Carved between 500 BC and 500 AD, these giant figures, including the hummingbird, monkey, and condor, are best viewed from the sky. You will take a 30 minute biplane tour over Nazca for a good look at these amazing glyphs. Afterwards, you will return to Lima, where you can explore the Larcomar, the beaches, or the terrific bars serving the famous Peruvian cocktail, the Pisco sour.
