Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chiles national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. It is also among the most important, receiving a significant proportion of domes Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w
Mytrip to Jerusalemwas a spiritual, eye-opening, and unforgettable experience. Probably the mostunexpected thing that I discovered about what is ostensibly the holiest city inthe world is that there is actually a fun, exciting, modern side to Jerusalem as well. Whenyou enter the stone gates to the Old City, youll feel likeyoure walking through history. The Old City is a reallyremarkable place where you can see, literally see, historical monuments thatare thousands of years old like the Western Wall (which later became known asthe Wailing Wall) and the dome of the rock. Jerusalemoffers an interesting mix of history, culture, religion, and modern-day fun. Thatsaid, during the day, it is best to dress modestly (shoulders covered, kneescovered) because it is a very religious population and its wise to avoidoffending people. But at night, in terms of dress, it's pretty much fairgame.Thecobblestone streets of the Arab souk (or market) are lined with merchantsselling scarves, Israeli flags, and jewelry. Some of the jewelry is beaded andhand made, while other pieces are sold in nice shops. There is also someimpressive silver work that you can get engraved with whatever you want inHebrew. You'll also probably be approached by an eager vendor selling thered strings (you can get something like 10 for 10 shekels, equivalent to a fewdollars) that are customarily worn on the left wrist to ward off misfortunebrought about by the evil eye. But, these men are all over Jerusalem, especially on Ben Yehuda, a major pedestrian shopping street in downtown Jerusalem. Wechose to explore the city on our own, but there are a variety of Jerusalem sightseeing tours available.Youcan embark upon tours slanted towards variousreligious perspectives (Jewish Tours, Catholic Tours,Christian Tours) or more generic ones (HolyLand Tours, Pilgrimage Tours). Asidefrom the idea of Jerusalemas an ancient city, it's actually pretty contemporary. The 'downtown'area (King George, Ben Yehuda and Jaffa streets) has several modern restaurantsand coffee shops (there's even a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) and clothing stores(including an American Apparel). Also, while people tend to think of Jerusalemas a holy city it also has an amazing night life! Dancing on the bar at KingsBar or sitting at one of the tables outside of Zolly's or getting down atBonita all makes for a great night out. There's also a 24-hourtattoo/piercing parlor.
