When driving in Italy it is easy to think that the only thing you have to worry about is remembering to drive on the right hand side of the road. However there are other things to consider to prevent your from unwittingly coming a cropper with the law. To help you understand the dos and don´ts of driving in Italy, in particular Milan, the Milan Airport Guide have put together all the information you need in one place to help you when hiring a Milan Airport Car Rental. 1. Belt up. Ok....so this rule is the same as in the UK but it´s important to remember that just because you are on holiday is no reason to flout this necessary safeguard. 2. Keep to the limit. How fast you are allowed to drive is not only dependent on the type of road but on weather conditions. The speed limit is 130km/h (80mph) on motorways, 110km/h (68mph) on dual carriageways, 90km/h (55mph) on open roads and 50km/h (30mph) through towns in dry conditions. When it is raining these limits drop to 110km/h (68mph) for motorways, 90km/h (55mph) on dual carriageways, 80km/h on open roads and 50km/h (30mph) in town.3. The use of mobile phones is forbidden while driving. The police are particularly hot on this and if stopped you are likely to be given an on-the-spot fine. 4. Don´t drink and drive. The blood alcohol level tolerated in Italy is very low at just 0.05 per cent. In fact it is a good idea to not drink at all when driving rather than take the risk with a foreign police force that take this extremely seriously. 5. Remember to always carry not only your driving licence with you in the vehicle but also your Milan Airport Car Hire registration documents as it can prevent unnecessary problems if pulled over. 6. Parking in the city centres can get expensive and cost anywhere between 20-30 for the day. Areas marked "zona disco" allow short periods of parking for between 30 minutes to 2 hours but check before leaving the car or you could return to find a fine on your windscreen.
