Located on the Orihuela Costa stretch of the Costa Blanca coastline, Cabo Roig is a popular destination for holidaymakers from all over Europe and in fact all over the world. The Spanish themselves love the resort and many head there, particularly from the city of Murcia, during the hot summer months, especially during August when many of the Spanish people take the whole month off for their annual vacation. Cabo Roig is usually very busy from May to November and fairly quiet during the winter months. The obtrusive watchtower which is the most famous landmark of Cabo Roig dates from the 16th century and was originally built to warn of attacks from Berber pirates who assailed the coastline in those long gone times. The tower now adjoins a restaurant, a great place for a quiet drink as it looks down over the marina and across the sea to La Manga. This is also the starting point for the wonderful cliff walk to La Zenia.Cabo Roig has 2 excellent white flag beaches (Cala Capitan and Cala Caleta) and is also within easy reach of other fine beaches at La Zenia and Campoamor. If you are staying in Cabo Roig you will find it worthwhile to take a trip down to the fantastic beaches of the Mar Menor (Lesser Sea), try to head for Lo Pagan which has a superb beach and is also the site of the famous healing mud baths (La Puntica), where thousands visit each year to enjoy the therapeutic effects of the mud.Whilst on a trip to Cabo Roig do not miss the cliff walk to La Zenia, this walk takes you along the back of Cala Caleta beach, above the marina and onwards to Cala Capitan and then to La Zenia beach. This is a very enjoyable walk and offers some exceptional views of the surrounding coastline, dont forget to take your camera or you will miss some great photo opportunities. You will spot La Manga in the distance and on a clear day you can pick out the towering apartment blocks of this up and coming resort.Cabo Roig has a wonderful climate and the sun shines on over three hundred days per year, the mean temperature being about 20 degrees C. You can usually expect to see little rainfall between May and October and the days are generally long and sunny. When rain does fall it is usually during the winter months, November and February being the most common months for rain. December and January are usually sunny and pleasant but with cold nights. For food, drinks and entertainment the majority of visitors head for the busy Cabo Roig strip (located on both sides of the N-332 coastal road), here you can find a tremendous variety of bars, restaurants, fast food establishments and shops. During the summer months there is plenty of live entertainment available plus the usual array of karaoke, bingo and quiz nights. For those who get bored with just sitting in the sun there are lots of other activities to enjoy in and around Cabo Roig. The Saturday market at Playa Flamenca is always popular with the ladies and if they cant find any bargains here then a trip to the massive Friday market in Torrevieja may be just what is needed. Torrevieja has lots of other attractions including the Aqua Splash park (Aquopolis), the wonderful promenade with its huge array of restaurants and ice-cream parlours, the craft market (held every day), the fun fair (great for the kids) and the new Habaneras shopping centre. So this is Cabo Roig the jewel of the Costa Blanca, a perfect spot to re-locate, an ideal destination for a family holiday or just a nice place for a short visit.Very handy for both Murcia (San Javier) and Alicante airports, Cabo Roig is situated on the N-332 coastal road between Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja.
