Like other high profile cities of USA, Dayton has very much exploited the high technology, research and information and industrial power to grow up as one of the finest destinations in the country. It has emerged as a great service and distribution center. In transportation, Dayton is the hub of one of the largest "90-Minute" markets in the nation. Founded on April 1, 1976, the city got its name on the name of revolutionary war hero General Jonathan Dayton. He was the youngest singer of U.S constitution and one of the first investors in the town. On February 12, 1805, the city was incorporated. The Commission-Manager Plan came into effect on August 12, 1913 and it became the first city of USA to have a Commission-Manager form of government. There after Dayton rapidly grew as a commercial hub and industrial power of the country. The qualities of the place made it an All America city three times in the years, 1951, 1978 and 1991. The city charter established a commission which is elected every four years. The mayor of the city is one of voting member of this non partisan city commission. This city commission is responsible for appointing the City Manager.
