Cell phones have changed a lot since the days of Zack Morrison Saved by the Bell. They used to be giant machines that were cumbersome andbarely worked when trying to make a phone call. They are now do-it-all machinesthat can surf the web, make phone calls and do all different kinds ofapplications as well. There is one thing that has not changed over the yearswhen it comes to cell phones, the fact that they all need batteries. There aremany different kinds of batteries that are used to power cell phones. The most affordable cellphone batteries on the market are Nickel Cadmium batteries. They arenot as environmentally friendly as other cell phone batteries because of theCadmium. It is best to let the batteries run all the way down before rechargingas well because they will lose a little bit of their length of life each timethat they are completely discharged before being recharged. This is called"memory effect". They also need to be recharged more often than otherrechargeable batteries, which is probably why they are less expensive than otherbatteries on the market. For a little better "memory effect" and a moreenvironmentally friendly battery you may want to look into a Nickel MetalHydride battery. They have a better recharge rate than the Nickel Cadmiumbatteries. They are also much more environmentally friendly because they don'thave any Cadmium in them. The most common rechargeable batteries on the market arecalled Lithium Ion batteries. They are much smaller than some of theircounterparts. They are definitely more expensive than the previous two modelsmentioned. But, this is for good reason. They do not experience any memoryeffect at all and have a much longer life than Nickel Hydride or Nickel Cadmiumbatteries. The newest and best performing batteries on the market arecalled Lithium Polymer batteries. They are extremely light weight batteriesthat experience no memory effect at all. They also have the longest batterylife of any cell phone battery and are much more safe for the environment thantheir counterparts.
