The Edinburgh Capitals continued their sluggish run last night (12 Feb 2012) as they lost again 3-2 at home against the Cardiff Devils in the Murrayfield Ice Hockey. As fans departed from their Murrayfield hotel disappointed, their ninth straight defeat is a huge blow to the team. Assistant coach Jock Hay has already admitted that the result was hard to take and that the main reason behind the costing of these games is that the team is unable to focus for a full 60 minutes. However, one may argue that this is a mere excuse considering that they were down two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Hay argues that for the rest of the game, they were actually probably the better team but considering that it was at home and a five minute period which cost them the game, whether it be at the beginning or end of the match. The team had made a series of defensive errors and they had seven opportunities to score but fail, especially twice when they actually had a two-man advantage. Giving their goals away, Hay argues that they will be training next week on how to remain mentally focused for a full 60 minutes. Cardiff was good at hustling and passing the puck and so they should be trying to get tips if they dont want to make it a tenth consecutive loss.Cardiff did begin to have a bad start but their first goal was in the eighth minute. After this match, Edinburgh are now in eighth position in the league tables with them only being five points ahead from the Dundee Stars. They will face the Dundee Stars this Saturday again at Murrayfield and its very much a crunch game if they want to secure a play-off spot. Their remaining games are massive and if they want to boost up on the tables, they will need to start putting major points on the board. It is set to be really close between the bottom four teams and so be sure to book into a luxury hotel Edinburgh to catch this amazing match next weekend. It may just make or break them.
