I know for certain that it's a near-impossible game towatch as a Jets fan. Super Bowl 42, the Giants' monumental upset of thethen-undefeated Patriots was a bit easier to stomach for Jets fans. I don'trecall many Jets fans, if any at all, rooting for the Patriots to cap off thefirst unbeaten season since the '72 Dolphins, especially since Eric Manginiselling out his former boss in the Spygate scandal sent the Pats on thedestroy-everything-in-its-path streak that brought them to the precipice of19-0. If it took our city-rival Giants to knock them off? So be it, I guess. Quickaside: I may have been one of the only Jets fans who wasn't exactly enamoredwith the fact that the Giants won that game. Here was my rationale: by aboutWeek 14 or so when the Patriots were steamrolling the NFL, I had kind of madeup my mind that the Pats were going undefeated and winning the Super Bowl. Ihad plenty of time to digest it so that when it happened, it wouldn't havereally mattered all that much. And then when Plaxico Burress caught that passin the end zone, I thought to myself "Now I have to hear about this fromGiants fans the rest of my life." Couldn't it have been the SeattleSeahawks or someone to beat the Pats? So there's that. But I suppose it stillwould have been worse had the Pats went 19-0. I guess. (As you can see, I'm afairly tormented Jet fan). Butthis year isn't as clear cut. After the Giants won that Super Bowl, it kind ofbecame a Jet town. I know, I know, the Giants WILL ALWAYS OWN NEW YORK YOUSTUPID JET FAN. But, the Jets signed Brett Favre for one weird season (theywere Super Bowl faves at 8-3, then collapsed) and the Giants lost in theirfirst playoff game after a great regular season. Then the Jets hired Rex Ryan, drafted Mark Sanchez and made two straight AFC Title games while Big Bluemissed the playoffs. And while the Jets have no one to blame but themselves forthis most recent debacle of a season, everything was made ten times worse bythe Giants making the Super Bowl. Not only have the Giants made it again, theirrun started by essentially ending the Jets' season in Week 16. Victor Cruz's99-yard touchdown reception sent the Jets one way and the Giants the other. TheGiants' two Super Bowl appearances basically takes everything a Jets fan couldhang their hat on these past few seasons and obliterates it.Ifthere's going to be one area of Super Bowl XLVI that determines the outcome ofthe game, it will be which pass-rush rises to the occasion. BothTom Brady and Eli Manning are excellent at picking defenses apart, and eachhave had outstanding pass protection all season long as well. That being said, let's break down each defense's pass-rush and how they can get constantpressure. Thekey here is getting to Tom Brady up the middle and from the side of rookietackle Nate Solder. Blindside left tackle Matt Light is arguably the best inthe game, so not much success will come from Brady's backside. Therefore, when knowing it's a pass and a blitz is called, sending defenders right atSolder will then force the running backs to slide out and help. After all, whynot try to exploit and get the rookie flustered early on?
