Undrafted David Desharnais spent his junior years playing for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior League. Desharnais racked up the points in the QMJHL. During his 4 years with Chicoutimi, Desharnais increased his goal totals year after year and aside from his first season in the QJMHL(when he scored 51 points in 70 games) he averaged around 100 points during roughly 65 games per season. David Desharnais finished his Junior career with an outstanding 374 points in 262 games as Team Captain of the Sagueneens for 3 of his 4 Junior years. Being the sportsman he is David Desharnais won the QMJHL's most gentlemanly player award 3 times and won the most gentlemanly player award of the CHL once. After being called to the 2007 Montreal Canadiens training camp, David Desharnais was assigned to go play in the East Coast Hockey League(mid-professional level, a step down form the AHL) with the Cincinnati Cyclones. With the Cyclones, Desharnais put up 106 points in 68 games. David Desharnais' 33 points in 22 games that post season helped lead the Cyclones to their first ECHL Championship. Desharnais was named ECHL Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player and was named to both the All-Rookie Team and the First All-Star Team.Following Desharnais' spectacular season with the Cyclones he was invited to the Montreal Canadiens training camp once again but this time was awarded a two year, two way contract to play with the Canadien's affiliate Montreal Canadiens. There aren't many players in the world with the vision Desharnais exhibits. He makes pin point passes and smart plays all game long. Because he is so small he does have some difficulty dealing with some of the NHL's bigger bodies on defense and on the cycle game. But his quick reflexes and vision solves these problem offensively.Desharnais is quick and crafty making plays that always seem to have a meaning behind them. He is an exciting player to watch who is very humble. The Montreal Canadiens have a gem on their hand in Desharnais who I think will soon be compared to a playmaking type Martin St. Louis with a lighter trigger finger.Desharnais is listed at 5 foot 7 but if you ever see him up it's hard to think envision him as being anything more than the smallest player in the league beside Martin Gerbe.
