Currently; the MotoGP racing calendar starts in the first weeks of March and ends in late October in the beautiful city of Valencia in southern Spain. Additionally; the World Championship takes place in 18 different sites around globe amongst which we can mention; China, United States, Malaysia, Australia, Japan and several European countries like Italy, Spain, Netherlands, England and Germany. More recently there have been rumours about a possible adding to the sceneries listed above as in the country of Hungary could become the next new circuit for the 2009 calendar. This landlocked country surrounded by Ukraine, Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Austria and Romania has already initiated a process with the FIM representatives in order to have their new under construction circuit in Balatonring as a MotoGP Grand Prix hosting place next year. The approximate cost of the circuit is £63 millions and this project will open up with a capacity to host 110,000 up to 140,000 spectators. Last time Hungary welcomed one of these races was more than 16 years ago at the Hungaroring close to Budapest.Another fact that will certainly help the Hungarians to obtain this place in the calendar is that there are many followers of the sport in the Eastern part of Europe who will not hesitate to travel near their countries to witness such an important motorcycling display; especially with the lower motorcycling category 125cc being ran there for some years now. This new site will provisional replace the China Gran Prix; news that took many of us by surprised as the proposal made by Hungary was to add a new circuit and expand the calendar instead of substituting a current existing one. Nevertheless; in the past four years only four races have been ran at the Chinese circuit therefore the decision promptly concluded. For the moment the calendar will continue to hold 18 races only but most dates and places will change as the Japanese which will be hosting the race in April and the Portuguese race will take place in early October in Estoril. Therefore; the calendar appointed dates will not end until the very first week of November with the traditional closing event at the Ricardo Tormo at the Valencia circuit; a very expected season finale for most MotoGP fans. According to this years MotoGP calendar the following race will take place in the Czech Republic next August 17th, and it consists of a total number of 22 laps. This is one of the shortest MotoGP races along with the Qatar Grand Prix, Shanghai, Mugello, and the Sepan Grand Prix in Malaysia.
