Automation technologies represent a fundamental aspect of any modern industry. The major types of industrial automation solutions, such as DCS, PLC, SCADA, and MES, are used on a large-scale in process and discrete industries.DCS technologie Awhile ago, I got an email from one of the "gurus" I follow and it shocked me. The gist of it was this person wanted to trade services for a household item.To say it floored me would be an understatement. What was worse was a few days later t
Most enterprises and organizations today are at war with the perpetrators of frauds. Fraudulent activities have crept into almost every activity in a demand-supply-distribution chain making the tracking and monitoring of dynamic data and transactions difficult, yet challenging. The adoption of Fraud Detection and Prevention services helps create a strong defence against such breach of law, thereby helping in the prevention and mitigation of fraud-related activities. This is why the process of detection and prevention is also a cumbersome one involving multiple steps of reducing the probability and intensities in risks by intelligently analysing gigantic number of records on individual as well as business transactions. The procedure also involves designing and implementing high-end sophisticated algorithms capable of identifying trends and patterns in the data by closely watching assets, profiles and histories of transaction, especially the derogatory ones.Fraud, defined as the “deliberate deception or cheating intended to gain an illegal advantage” in terms of making a competitive edge, misappropriate wealth etc. Fraud involves three related activities; namely, Corruption, Asset Misappropriation and tweaking of key financials (also known as Financial Statement Fraud). The types of frauds addressed in the service range from cyber-crimes like hacking (into emails and downloads), dissemination of virus, Trojan horse, phishing, spyware and key logger etc. to corruption and misappropriation. The techniques adopted for the mitigation of the technology are Statistical Techniques, Machine Learning and Data mining involving both supervised and unsupervised learning.Frauds can be of two types: Internal and External Frauds. Internal frauds, also known as Employee Frauds, are frauds committed against an organization for which a person (or persons) is working for. Internal Frauds can be of many types: Payment Frauds, Receipt frauds, travel and subsistence fraud, personnel management fraud, procurement frauds and exploitation of assets for information. They occur when a number of people (staffs) make false representation and abuse their position in the organization to cause losses to others. Internal Frauds maybe either unplanned for or an organized crime. The only plausible way to address the problem is by having constant checks during employment and promotions.External Frauds are committed by outsiders and cover activities of theft, hacking and deception and is most often committed due to a lack of adequate safeguards. A third type of fraud is the “collusion”, which is an arrangement between two or more parties (with members from inside or outside the organization). This type of a breach is difficult to detect as the controls may give a misleading picture and may work initially.FDP can also be categorized on the basis of the types of victims against whom the crimes are committed: Investors, Creditors, and Central/Local Governments, Banks or Financial bodies and manipulations of the market. These cases can be solved on the basis of solution by employing either Fraud Analytics or Authentication. Fraud Analytics involves detecting and preventing these frauds using data analytics. This solution can help a firm (or company) predict such activities and helps understand the impacts of the actions on the organizations. Authentication is a type of authorization for confirming the degree of truth in a single attribute or entity. It is the process of deciding if something is to be declared or not.
