They think that once a design is perfect with the best image andthe best text, the message delivery will be successful. This is not necessarily true however. If you are always focusing on thepostcard design, you should learn that there is more to it than justthat. • The design is just one part of the equation – You should know thatthe design is really just one aspect of postcard marketing. A greatdesign will not necessarily spell success because other factors canhamper or minimize the design’s impact. Thus, while designs must bemade to the best of your abilities, there are other factors that youshould focus on to ensure that the design could deliver its messagewell. There are three factors to consider here, quality, content anddistribution. • Quality matters – Quality matters because it can in fact add to thebeauty or the ugliness of your color postcards. For example, you canhave a nice professionally made cover. If you print this however incheap paper that is thin and rough, it will look very much like anamateur. People will think it is still cheap even though you have anice design. If you use high quality materials however, the kind with the glossysurface and good thickness, then people will have a better impression.In direct mail marketing, this means that people will not consider itjunk mail. In fact, they might even consider keeping it if it looksgood enough. • Content matters – The content of course matters obviously. While thedesign is the most attractive factor in postcard printing, the contentis where the meat of your message is. This is of course particularlycentered on the text within the design. It must be convincing to thereaders and they must be able to easily understand and relate to thesubject. To achieve this you will need some good market research on your targetmarkets so that you will know how exactly you should approach in termsof text style. Hire a professional writer if you are unsure of how todo this. • Distribution matters – Finally, distribution can affect the successand failure of your postcard marketing. Deliver to the wrong locationsand you will just be wasting money since no one will respond to them.Even with a great design, the impact will be minimal. You have to knowwhere your most ideal customers are by researching on the details oftheir demographics. Know if your target market is in the lower, middle or higher classesand send your cards to the appropriate neighborhoods. This should atleast ensure the best possibility of your postcards arriving to peoplewho actually will be interested in whatever it is you are marketing. So do not just focus on just the design. Other factors are importanttoo so try to focus on them as well after you finished with the maindesign.
