Designing trade show displays that capture the attention of visitors and draw them into your booth space is crucial. The right graphics and information go a long way toward achieving this, but there are other considerations that can have a dramatic impact on your success that many people neglect. Booths for trade shows generally have to fit into a relatively small space that's shaped like a rectangle, but that doesn't mean that you can't get creative with the layout within that rectangle. Psychologists have been studying floor plans and design layouts for years and discovered that there is a distinct psychology tied to various shapes. Using them properly in your custom trade show design can mean a more successful, more interesting booth. The Trustworthiness Of Squares And RectanglesSquares are the most basic shape used in the creation of trade show displays because they maximize use of the sides, back and frontage of the area. Although this is a relatively static layout, it is also the most solid. It's firmly grounded and will subconsciously appeal to visitors because it conveys reliability, familiarity and trust. If your message is that your company is reliable, traditional and strong, a square or rectangular floor plan will work well. Because of the sharp corners, this shape is often seen as masculine and strong. The strength and dependability of the square is a great layout for banking and financial services companies.Circles For Welcoming Trade Show DisplaysThe circle has been viewed as an almost mystical shape for thousands of years. It has no beginning and no end, symbolizing eternity. Because this is a dynamic shape, it is often perceived as reflecting movement (like a wheel). It conveys completeness, inclusion and comfort because there are no sharp edges and it draws you inward. A floor plan that creates a circle will embrace visitors and give them a warm, comforted feeling while keeping them moving. If your company wants to focus on nurturing or comfort, a circular floor plan will reinforce these notions. Circles are also perceived as feminine due to their curves; they lend a softness to booths and floor plans that might otherwise seem too aggressive. Companies promoting women's products, spas and other luxuries would do well to consider a circular layout.Triangles Are Dynamic And ChangeableTriangles are also dynamic shapes because they can be positioned in a variety of ways. Situated on their base, they are stable. But if they are tilted or balanced on a point, they represent transformation or evolution. Trade show displays that are configured in a triangle can either be pointing back, focusing on history and past achievements, or pointing forward, indicating progress and new purpose. Because it is also an indication of the trinity, it's an excellent way to create three distinct areas if you have three strong points to make with your custom trade show design. Triangles are masculine and aggressive, making them ideal for high tech companies and sports related booths for trade shows.Spirals Draw Visitors Along A PathSpirals are more organic than most other shapes. They seem to be in motion and encourage transformation and growth. Visitors will readily follow along a spiral shaped path if they are introduced to new information or materials along the way. This shape is an excellent use of booth space because it draws attendees to the center, where the culmination of your presentation should be. Companies that are socially oriented or that offer products or services that are frequently growing or expanding may want to consider a spiral layout.Trade show displays are more than just booths, banners and graphics. By creating an unexpected or unusual floor plan, you can transform your space from boring and staid to truly dynamic, drawing your visitors in and focusing their attention so that you have ample opportunity to turn them into customers.
