Wouldnt you love to be able to write testimonials foruse on your website that scream huge praises for yourproduct? Writing your own testimonials? Youve got to bekidding! Isnt that illegal?I know what youre thinking. Youre picturing some guybanging out praises for his product, then pullingnames out of thin air to tag onto them. But youve gotit half wrong. While I have written some of my own testimonials, thenames below them are actual people that agree withwhat the testimonial has to say.Confused?Let me show you what I mean A customer purchases my product. They have a chance tolook through it and make a decision about it.About a week after their purchase, I send them aletter asking for a testimonial. But this letter isunlike any testimonial youve ever seen. What I do is write a letter asking for them to pickwhich comment sums up their review of my product. Thenthe letter continues with about five testimonials, each one reflecting a different opinion. For instance, my first testimonial might say thattheyve made good money with my product. The secondmight say that they were skeptical at first, thenrealized after their purchase what a great product itis. A third testimonial might show what a thoroughproduct I have and that it answered all theirquestion. I would also have two or three othertestimonials that showed and put to rest differentfears a potential customer might use to not make theirpurchase.A customer of mine reads through the testimonials, andpicks the one they feel is close to their ownthoughts. At the bottom of the letter, I ask if I canuse their name along with the testimonial they choseto sum up their thoughts on my website. And most will do it. If they like your product, theyshould have no problem lending their name to atestimonial that mirrors their thoughts. In fact, theyprobably would of said it themselves, only they didntfeel competent in their writing or didnt want to takethe time. You still may wonder, is it unethical?I dont believe so. I feel that if someone doesntagree with the testimonials Ive written, theyre notgoing to let me use their name. Writing my owntestimonials simply lets people express their feelingswithout the labor of writing. There are a few other tips youll need to write yourown testimonials:Write your first five to seven testimonials, then sendthem out to one customer. Wait for their reply. Ifthey decide to tag their name to one of them, thenreplace it with another new testimonial and send it toyour next customer. Keep track of which ones youveused, and replace them as you go.Give the opportunity for your customer to enhance thetestimonial. Let them change words or phrases. Allowthem to add or delete sentences. In a sense, let themreally make it their own. This is a powerful method of securing testimonials fora new product. I would say that almost half thetestimonials on my web page were acquired this way. AsI get new unsolicited testimonials that are reallypowerful, I swap out the older ones. If you do thesame you have a powerful tool that reassures potentialcustomers and turns them into buyers.
