Some kids grow up knowing that they want to be a lawyer because a parent or close relative was a lawyer and they wanted to grow up to be just like him or her. Then there is a second group of young people who become inspired in their teens. They become inspired to defend causes close to their family, culture or the issues that greatly impact their life such as civil rights, immigration, divorce or finance. There are four main categories of law that the young attorney in training must study. There are constitutional law, administrative law from administrative agencies, statutory law and common law as the result of the courts final decision in a case. An attorney can work privately or be a public defender that is called upon by their local court to represent anyone charged with either a criminal act or a civil suit. The individual studying and practicing to become a successful lawyer understands that everyone is entitled to due process under the presumption of innocence. If he or she pursues public defense they will experience it firsthand, but if they pursue private practice they will have gained the luxury of consulting with their clients before accepting their case to determine if the person is proclaiming true innocence and whether their case is a case that they are prepared to represent the individual to the best of their talents, knowledge and resources, as all clients expect to be represented. There are several areas of law. An attorney can represent a variety of cases under civil law, corporate law or family law, for a few examples. Yet, the possibilities of sub-specialization under these categories of law are varied. The sub-specialties include representing clients in cases for airplane crashes where equipment failure may only be a part of the cause, birth injuries where medical staff negligence played a large part, proper application for asylum or citizenship, DUI charges, employee benefits from a difficult employer, preventing foreclosures, protecting investments, juvenile law to protect a youths rights and rehabilitation and the list goes on in alphabetical order for all aspects of life. An attorney's reasons for going into any of the above mentioned areas of law can be out of personal interests or the growth of community interest due to the amount of cases present in one's city and/or state. Regardless of the inspiration or reasoning, as long as the attorney has gained the knowledge and expertise with research and communication then they will be able to represent each client to the best of his or her ability in each case.
