Beingthe glutton for punishment that I am, I had to finish out the entire room toachieve the effect I was looking for.      That being said,I’ve never had much trouble hanging drywall. Cutting the boards to the right dimensions and then zipping a few screwsin to the studs is the easy part.  The funstarts when I get the finishing tape and a mud knife in my hands.  That’s when all hell breaks loose and theswearing commences.  I don’t know aboutyou, but I have the kind of personality that usually resonates with the “if alittle is good, than more is better” train of thought.  But in the case of drywall mud, this is justnot the case.  After countless hours ofslapping on a thick coat of mud, followed by furious sanding, followed by moremud, and then more sanding, I usually end up with a floor to ceiling speed bumpwhere the seam used to be.  Not tomention that the room I’m working in is now covered in about two inches ofpowdery white dust second only to the surface of the moon.   As I shake the thick residue from hair andwipe the dust out of my eyes, now bloodshot and as dry as the Sahara,I behold the end result of my labor and exclaim, “That really looks like crap!  Why didn’t I hire a good drywall contractorto do this?”      If you’ve everwatched a dry wall contractor finish drywall, it is truly a sight tobehold.  Delicate little skim coats flyon like paint from Divinci’s brush.  Aflick of the wrist and that screw head disappears.  The tape clings to the seam like it wasbegging to be there all along.
