In 1814 Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther founded one of thefirst private porcelain factories in Hohenberg, Germany. His son, LorenzeHutschenreuther, opened another porcelain factory in 1857 in another Germancity, Selb. (Selb would eventually become a center for porcelain manufacturingin Germany muchlike Limoges in Franceand Staffordshire in England.)The two Hutschenreuthercompanies were owned separately by father and son, and were completelyindependent of one another. In fact, they competed against one another in the businessof producing fine porcelain until 1969 when a merger of the two companies tookplace. The resulting company was named Hutschenreuther A.G., which continues tomanufacture porcelain today. The Hutschenreuther factories have produced dinner services,figurines, gift accessories and crystal items. One of a long line of Germanporcelain manufacturers at the original Hutschenreuther Porcelain Factory whichstarted in Hohenberg, Bavariain 1814. The C. Tielsch Co. located in what had become Silesia,Germany, usedthe blue underglaze mark beginning around 1875 and continuing into the early1900's.
