From 1897 to 1936, Rosenthal acquired factories inKronach, Marktredwitz, Selb, Waldenburg, Sophienthal, and Waldershof. Thepopularity of the Maria White and Moss Rose patterns helped the business growrapidly. By the time of WWII, Rosenthal operated 10 companies andemployed over 5,000 people. When the war ended, Rosenthals son, Phillip,returned to Germanywhere he modernized out of date factories and reestablished lost markets.Phillip quickly rebuilt the business by reaching new markets interested in themodern shapes and artistry of his dinnerware. These plates have been stored, wrapped up, for manyyears, so they are in like new condition. They are heavily decorated with gold,including a circle "c" outside and inside border, a wide floralmedallion band, a band of ebony blue, with an interior gold scroll border.
