When I was in third grade my family,I went to visit my grandmother for Thanksgiving. We had travelling for hours -- a couple of hours on the plane and then another hour to get to the city my grandmother lives in. When we got to the town, instead of heading right to my grandmother's, we went to one of my parents' friends' house. We all got out of the car and went inside of the house. All of the adults were in front of me. I bent down to say hi to the family's dog. He was a west highland terrier, and I had known him for years and years. I fondly patted his back and reached under him to touch his tummy, and he turned around, jumped up and bit me on the cheek.Predictably, I screamed and started crying. My mom told me later that before she turned around she thought "Oh man, what now?" But when she turned around, she said that all she saw was me clutching my cheek with blood seeping out between my fingers, which of course put her in action mode. They sat me down in the bathroom and attempted to clean the blood off, so they could look at the wound. After looking and discussing between themselves, they decided that I needed to go to the hospital. So we all packed up and went to the hospital. The doctors there took a look at me and decided that I needed stitches and a rabies shot. The rabies shot was just in case, and I'm pretty sure it was procedure. But I did not want stitches in the slightest. I fought my mom at the top of my lungs. I didn't want some long black things sticking out of my face. I knew that all of the kids would stare at me when I got back to school, and I didn't want that. But my mom overruled me. I had to get the stitches. So we waited around until about nine or ten at night for the plastic surgeon. I needed to get plastic surgery to make sure that the scars on my face would not be obvious. When the plastic surgery started, I screamed a lot. They had to hold me down on the table to numb my face, because I really didn't want stitches. But once my face was numb, I was all okay with it. They gave me a total of 16 stitches. It's funny now to me that I get to tell my friends that I have had plastic surgery, because when people think plastic surgery, they think a nose job or something. But I had to have it to make sure that my scars weren't very visible. Thankfully, the surgeon did a great job, so much so that when I tell people that a dog bit me in the face, they don't believe me. I have to point out my small scars to show them where the dog bit me. Article Tags: Plastic Surgery, Turned Around, Didn't Want
