Years ago author Ken Kesey wrote a book (that eventually became a movie) titled Sometimes A Great Notion. That's how the 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart weight loss program strikes most people who have tried it. It sounds good in theory, but will it really work? Many people who bought it ended up asking for their money back. The program either just didn't quite deliver or the participants weren't able to apply it correctly. Or maybe its premise was flawed. Whatever the cause, it hasn't received good press. Created by nutritionist Chris Mohr and personal trainer Todd Durkin, the plan promises to help its participants to "lose 10 pounds of fat...flatten your belly, help you get leaner, and feel amazing in just 21 days!" Unfortunately, not everyone experiences these promises. Chris throws around names like LL Cool J, Emeril Lagasse, and Denise Austin as clients of his who he's helped. And perhaps he thinks that name dropping is part of the marketing for his product. But name dropping is not going to make the program any better if it won't deliver the goods. The problem with the 21 Day Fat Loss Jumpstart as some see it is that it relies too much on it's one-size-fits-all approach. Participants aren't educated about nutrition and proper food choices so that they can learn how to do this on their own, but rather are led by the hand to just follow the program's suggested meal plans. As Chris says on his sales page: "We did ALL the work for you, just follow the 21 day step by step plan that I followed to lose 10 lbs of fat in 21 days quickly and safely!" To his credit, he does provide ready made meal plans so that you don't have to think about how to structure your 21-day meals. It's all there for you to use: just purchase the food and prepare as instructed. While the diet education portion of this plan may have its problems, the exercise portion is designed to meet participant's expectations of targeted fat reduction. Todd Durkin is a respected physical trainer in the industry who has devised the workout section of the program. If you're willing to do the workouts according to the plan's design, there should be no doubt that you will reduce your body fat. Just make sure to set aside 30-45 minutes a day to follow the exercise regimen. Now, remember, this is only for a 21 day stretch. Surely you can spare that amount of time each day to achieve your goals. Problem is: What happens after you have completed the program? Are you given the tools to keep the weight off? Are you taught how to structure your subsequent dietary needs in order to insure you won't gain all the weight back? Unfortunately, the plan doesn't go that far so as to provide participants with that information. To be fair, though, Chris does include an interview with Shawn Phillips, a respected fitness expert and author, outlining the "permanent success strategies Shawn has used in his own life to maintain a very lean, yet healthy body..." Though it isn't much, it's better than nothing. There's also an additional free e-book entitled 101 Luscious Recipes for a Lean Healthy Body. But just having these recipes without understanding the underlying reasons for following them isn't necessarily going to change your thinking about food in a way that is healthy and lasting. Most people end up returning to their old habits after completing the diet, and guess what happens then...!For our tastes, this weight loss program seems to use too many gimmicks and tricks (additional audio and written material) to get you to part with your hard earned money while delivering only a passable product. Although you may be able to lose the promised amount of weight using this program, you might be better served by looking for a more complete presentation that takes you from step one all the way through to how to follow-up your diet experience so that you begin living a more healthy lifestyle.
