With many of our special needs homes and disability homesdependant on financial assistance from agencies outside of their ownestablishments, the current credit crunch our economy is in will most definitelylead to decreased services for those who are disabled in our communities. Thereare more than 150,000 children with special needs and learning disabilitiesawaiting a permanent home in the United States today. In a country that hasbuilt its reputation as one of the richest countries in the world, that is anumber that is way too high. We should not have dug ourselves into a hole bigenough to allow our learning disabled and special needs patients to have tosuffer. There are more children now more than ever with a learning disability. This in turn affects the performance in school. If these people are not helpedand continue to receive the help they need, then where is the work force goingto end up and where is their sense of satisfaction going to go? Are we going totoss them aside like we have with every other person who is not perfect in thegovernments eyes? Epilepsy care homes provide care to patients with differentlevels of epilepsy. Homes such as this alleviate much of the stress that parentsand caretakers have on them from taking care of epilepsy patients. These homesin turn gain much of their support from agencies like United Way. United Wayprovides support to agencies like pregnancy centres, boy scouts, educationalfacilities, learning disability centres, autism care homes, and many more. Weas a people give to United Way with our time and money. The credit crisis thatwe have created has greatly limited our means to give to these agencies thathelp those in need. Without help, these agencies may be forced to limit thehelp offered or even close. We do not want this to happen to the people whocannot help the problems they have. They did not ask to have these issues suchas autism or epilepsy or not being able to comprehend what they study. But withthe economy in the uproar it is and us not having the means to supportourselves, we are not going to be able to support others in their time of need.It is a sad state that we live in when we have to abandon those who have issuesthat require the help of us and we can't help them.
