At the age of 3-4 months the babys social development involves getting familiar to mothers breast or sucking from the bottle, giving a smile in response to others smile, trying to know from where a particular sound is coming, crying at sudden loud noise, looking at faces when spoken. At the age of 5-6 months babys respond better. They smile spontaneously, try moving to familiar people, start choosing toys, distinguishing between colors, and finding their favorite object. At age of 9-10 months the child start to identify and distinguish between family members and strangers, become emotionally attached to a specific toy or object, enjoy games like peek-a-boo or pat-a-cake. By the age of a year or so the baby tries to do more mischief, this is also a part of the babys social development. They try to get adults attention, start drinking from cup, try eating their own, imitating adults and also demonstrate affections. As the age moves, so does the social development of the child grow. Once the child is an year old, things change. Social interaction now becomes an important part. Interaction with other humans to satisfy ones need and to grow the child has to socialize. The skills for the babys social development start from the very first surrounding that is the home and family. The child tries to imitate what he sees others doing. Hence it becomes very important to give proper values at this crucial time of development. Communicating skills are a part of babys social development. With time it becomes necessary for the child to be exposed to the other friends, different playmates and people around. Interaction with other children of their age also helps to grow social skills and talent. Seeing other babies, parents, people and places the child begins to know new things and construct new ideas about what the world is like. Child gets to learn new things seeing other children of his/her age. For instance the child noticing other children greeting elders will try to imitate and try doing the same. Taking the child to gardens, play parks, parent baby exercise sessions, malls, and supermarkets can be a different experience altogether. The child can be now called as the toddler. In the age 12-18 months the toddlers usually enjoy people clapping, play with balls, show specific wants like water, milk or food by gestures and vocalizations, begin trying to learn skills to show that they can manage things by themselves. Some children stick to their mothers always and have anxiety regarding parents leaving. Till the age of 2years the child wants to see pictures, colorful books, show more independency, enjoy hugging, play with other children of same age group and at times fight back for some toy. These all show the increasing social developments in a child. In the age group of 2-3 years the child verbalize toilet needs, help put away toys, start brushing teeth, try dressing. Next age group can be the pre-school age group. This is from 3 to 4 years. Here the child shows the maximum social interaction till now. The child starts sharing their toys, takes turns, may or may not develop fears from strangers, darkness. Develop sense of humor, crack silly and funny jokes, would like dancing, chatting. The child may here also demand for things watching other children having them in school. The next is the last stage of being said a baby anymore, which is 5-6 years. A sense of maturity takes over in this stage. The child chooses friends, plays more with same age children, and understands what not to do. Learns to respect adults and get more sensitive to people around. If the child shows these social skills a bit later than their age, there is nothing to worry, each child needs its own time to learn and interact with others. Thus it can be said that the babys social development plays an important role for the social skills later in life.
