There are enough reasons to quit out there for anyone. Take your pick.Better healthBetter breathMore cash in your pocketHigher self esteemNo running to the gas station every time you run outLiving longer for yourself and your familyHaving to take breaks all the timeYou won't stink, your car won't stink, your house won't stink, your dog etc.The list can go on forever and ultimately there is only one thing that will make you finally quit.YOU WILL HAVE TO WANT TO STOP!!It is the single dumbest thing I ever did. One day led to 18 years and it came down to a single moment. When I finally said that's it, ENOUGH!For no particular reason, I was flipping through channels on television and stopped on Peter Jennings and ABC News. He was announcing this was his last newscast and the reason was he had a very limited time to live. Mr. Jennings had quit smoking for a long time, but after 9-1-1, he said the stress of reporting the terrorist attacks had brought him back to smoking. He soon found himself with tremendous cancer and was going off the air to tend to the rest of his short life. I wasn't a fan of Peter Jennings or ABC News, but what I was watching hit me like a ton of bricks. It had been on my mind for some time to quit. For whatever reason, this was the last straw. Frankly, I think owe him my life. That was April 5th, 2005, the last time I smoked a cigarette. Whatever it would take, I was going to get it done. Not everyone's experience will be the same. For me, quitting was the single worst event of my life and unfortunately anybody around me had to go through it also. People say that cigarettes are harder to quit than heroin, I'll just have to take their word for it. I assume they are saying it is the toughest addiction to quit. Certainly it's the toughest achievement of my life and bittersweet that it was a self inflicted challenge. It took longer than I thought and it was harder than I thought. Using the patch and exercise were my means and after a short while, the patches are done and your left with exercise and patience...it takes a long while. Then one day you just look back and say "Wow, I can't believe I got here".So, if you are thinking about stopping, don't let me sway you against it. Know that it's going to be a bumpy ride but, the paybacks are far greater than I had imagined and the feeling of renewed health is inexplicable. So it doesn't matter how horrible the experience or how long it will finally take to shake the habit for good. Because when you finally make up your mind to quit, when you finally get to the point where enough is enough, you will do what it takes to get to the other side. And the benefits of the other side are great. The benefits of not smoking come to you all the time. The mental and physical changes happened so slowly when you start smoking but come back much quicker. You are going to feel stronger and smarter. You'll look back all of a sudden and realize the fantastic pleasure of not being controlled by this habit. The health benefits and my mortality were the main reasons for me to stop. But the dollar and cents benefits are some of the extras that add up real quick. At a pack a day, you can save over $2000 a year and most smokers spend more than that. This in itself is a nice benefit but the savings are realized in many different parts of your life. One big area is the cost of insurance. Smokers pay more for auto and home owners insurance. Smokers get into more auto accidents and have more home fires, so they pay higher rates. The statistics show it and insurance companies charge more to smokers. Stop smoking and you will see your rates go down. When it comes to Life and Health insurance, the savings becomes even more apparent.Smoking shortens your life and weakens your health. The best rates are offered to people, who never started smoking, but once you have stopped smoking and stopped smoking for a year or more, your rates will get better. You will begin to save thousands and thousands of dollars by not smoking. Over the years you will save a fortune.By not smoking, you also won't be paying for the medications that smokers need versus non-smokers. You won't pay the higher premiums that smokers pay for health and life insurance. So in addition to the money saved by not buying cigarettes, you will save on insurance premiums too.I am gratified most by my renewed health and sense of longevity, but the extra money and savings are great to add to the list of benefits of quitting smoking!Peak Services "Helping You Reach Your Peak"The Life & Health On-Line Insurance SuperStoreNo Medical Exams, No Nurses, No Needles, No Appointments, No Red Tape, No Hassleshttp://www.reachpeak.com/ Article Tags: Quit Smoking, Won't Stink
