Most of Mt. Pleasants real estate inventory is made up of newer homes that have been built since 1995. So, it can be difficult to find an older home in an established neighborhood. I have included below some of the most popular neighborhoods in Mt. Pleasant with older houses. Most of the homes in these neighborhoods were built before the year 2000 (although you will find an occasional newer home in these communities). I have put these in order of average list price, from the highest to the lowest. Old Village (also called Old Mt. Pleasant) is the only historic community in Mt. Pleasant. Most of these homes range in date from the late 1800s to the 1950s. But, you will find some new construction mixed in, too. Old Village is a highly sought after community because of the homes and the location, since it is just over the Ravenel Bridge. Some of these even overlook the Charleston Harbor. Prices range from the high $300s to over $4 million. Hidden Lakes also has a good location, but it is more central to everything in Mt. Pleasant. In fact, you can walk to Towne Center! Prices start in the mid $400s and go up to the $800s. Almost all of these homes were built in the 1990s. Wakendaw Lakes has a range of home styles, since it was started in the 1970s and finished in the mid 1990s. If you are looking for a more affordable home on the water than what youll find in the marshfront or beachfront sector of real estate, Wakendaw Lakes may be a good place to start your search. Many of these homes sit on the 25 acre lake within the community. Prices start in the high $300s and go up to the high $700s. Horlbeck Creek was also built in the 1990s, but it is a marshfront community. It has a neighborhood dock, but many of these homes have their own private docks. Prices range from the low $300s to the mid $700s. Charleston National is one of only 2 golfing communities on this list (see Snee Farm below). Charleston National is much further out (a good 25 minutes from downtown Charleston without heavy traffic). This community is also slightly newer than the others on this list, since most of the homes were built in the mid to late 1990s. Prices start just under $300K and go up to about $3 million. Snee Farm was built mostly in the 1970s and 1980s, and it tends to be a favorite among buyers looking for older homes in Mt. Pleasant. It has a golf course, too. It is located practically across the highway from Towne Center, so it also boasts a good, central location for the shopping, restaurants, and beaches of Mount Pleasant. House prices range from the low $200s to just over $1 million (but you can find condos and townhouses for much less). Longpoint is one of the most affordable neighborhoods on this list. Prices start in the low $200s and go up to the $500s. Most of these were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Because of its location, Longpoint is a great starter home community in Mt. Pleasant if you are looking for older homes in a range of different designs and styles.
