All the best and most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in have been leather recliners. There are many reasons why I think this, but basically because leather is very appealing to all five of our senses. That cannot be said about any other upholstery, that may appeal to a couple of senses but not all of them. Here is how leather recliners are so alluring.Sight - leather recliners simply look good. They draw the human eye. If there are a bunch of recliners lined up, the leather ones are what first catches most people's eye, it is the one they go and try first. The look they radiate is quality and luxury. One of the best things is that they look good for a long time. Leather outlasts traditional upholstery by four to one, so your leather recliner will still look good when a fabric one is frayed and disintegrating. High quality leathers (full grain) will have natural markings and scars from the animals life, this makes a chair unique, having a character of its own.Touch - leather recliners always feel good, regardless of the grain or finish. Leather can vary from a smooth finish to pebble grain finishes of various sizes, plus many others. Leather's natural qualities makes it perfect for all types of weather. It stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter.Smell - you gotta love the smell of leather! It exudes richness and class. The smell should be mild and easy on the senses, that means it is high quality. The smell of leather is often associated with newness. As a matter of fact, many car dealerships use an air freshener spray that smells like leather to give used (ie "previously owned") cars a new smell. Subtle things like that subconsciously increases the value of the vehicle in the purchaser's mind. This subconscious high value association of the smell of leather carries over to other things too, things like leather recliners.Sound - leather recliners really do not make a lot of sound, but when you sit in one you do hear a small sigh and crinkle welcoming you to comfort. If it is squeaky or crunches a lot, most likely it is either fake leather, vinyl, or a really cheap and heavily processed leather. Taste - all right, I know this is a stretch, but leather is so pleasing to our other four senses, how can I leave out taste? Leather is natural, most leather used in the US comes from cows, which plays a role in a majority of American's diets. But we do not eat the hide, that is saved for things like jackets, sofas, and leather recliners. But I read a book recently about pioneers crossing the great plains in the mid-1800's. They were hit with early winter storms and were out of food. One true diary entry talked about boiling the leather from shoes to try to add some type of nutrients to the evening's soup.Leather recliners appeal to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons, but almost always one of those reasons is associated with at least one of our five senses.
