Born into a family of musicians and artists, Danish painter Gitte Peters knew the path she’d follow from an early age. Family continues to be a great part of her inspiration and she echoes this positivity and joy in her work. Peters paints with oils, applying her layers with a spatula, creating textural melodies. Her work brims with colorful interplay, abstractions hinting at fields of dazzling flowers, of vases overflowing, and lily pads floating. “My paintings are joy and my paintings are love,” Peters says. “That’s the DNA of my work.” Fascinated by the work of Asger Jorn, particularly the way his colors interact and the power they hold, Peters seeks to infuse her own work with the same cascade of sensation. She paints from a place of happiness, exploring ease, light, joy, and love in her work. Her paintings are an expression of gratitude. “I see my works as friends,” Peters says, “a friend you invite into your home.” Gitte Peters currently lives and works in the Principality of Monaco. Taking what is specific to a natural setting—a landscape, a body of water—and showing how it impacts the flow or urban life, The New Flux makes a case that our dependency on nature is just as pervasive as our dependency on technology.
