Russian American artist Mila Gerasimova combines photographic images with oil and acrylic painting to create a surrealistic artistic style that’s highly emotive and totally new. Her use of double exposure in her photographs, which are then transposed onto painted images, yields artworks that are haunting, otherworldly, and utterly poignant. Natural subjects and landscapes are juxtaposed against human faces, demonstrating a human consciousness that is ancient, deep, and far beyond the superficial trappings of our modern culture.Inspired in particular by the Renaissance masters (including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael), Gerasimova takes the rich legacy of this painting period and applies it to a world of fantasy and imagination that peers closely at the depths of the human psyche.
