Maciej Marecki creates a multi-layered world in his paintings. “I am looking for my reflection in outer space,” the artist says, and his images give an otherworldly aura to each scene he depicts. His works combine a childlike sense of wonder and fantasy with surrealism and abstraction. Marecki works in a wide variety of media and styles—from oils and acrylics on wood to digitally made pieces. Incorporating written language, energetic drips and swirls of paint, and precisely rendered imagery, Marecki’s paintings embody ever-changing moods and textures, forming an energetic and vibrant body of work. That energy is channeled in a distinctive manner. Experienced as a graphic designer, architect and illustrator, Marecki brings clarity and focus to each image, orchestrating his experiments in a way that forms a strong, immediate connection with the viewer. Even at their most abstract or hallucinatory, his images have a sense of balance and harmony, allowing him to push the boundaries of his art while never losing the thread of his message. Born in Poland, the artist now lives and creates in New York.
