When the decade of the 50s started out, the country saw the rise of economic growth, once more giving opportunities for folks to obtain more sustenance, and stay in a normal life. Females remained wearing the nineteen forties fashions during the first five years . In the late 50s, women started to wear colorful dresses with floral prints. The style was inspired by Religious Dior’s ”New Look” collection, characterized by a below-mid-calf length, full-skirt, pointed bust line, small waist, and round shoulder line. Summer and Day dresses shot up in popularity, as well as the pencil skirts and cardigans.Men’s fashion transformed slightly as the men started wearing youthful clothing such as sweaters, multi-colored printed polos, pants and flannels. ”Chinos” became popular as well as white tee shirts and tartan plaids. The drape cut suits remained popular as well. The Barong Tagalog became popular once again to be worn as an official article of clothing, popularized by the then President Ramon Magsaysay. The Ternowas rarely worn by young women everyday, were still worn at formal events such as galas, national events, authority parties and film festivals. The 1960s.When the 1960s moved in, almost all of the styles from the late-1950s still continued on , however due to the rise of British pop culture in United States and other regions of the world, fashion started to change. A new kind of dress called the miniskirt, miniature dresses, started to become popular and mod style fashions also emerged. Frizzy hair became stylish as the hair was styled bigger and higher by using quality hairsprays. By the mid sixties, the hemlines became not as long and the clothes became fitted more closely to the body.Men’s fashions moved to a more youthful look, as they started wearing polos and pants, replacing the suit and coats. Suits and Coats were only worn during events and by the older men as well as the Barong Tagalog. The 1970s helped bring change. The entire world was hard at work letting go of the past and being excited about the future. Rejection towards styles of earlier generations emerged. Feelings of demonstration towards elders was clear with the attitudes of the young, but also in how younger people presented themselves through fashion. The disco era was soon to be ushered in, and clothing styles would make a huge change once again. The one area that seemed to never change was formal events, such as weddings and baptisms; as well as funerals and events that required the utmost respect to be paid to all those involved as well as respect paid to the meaning of the event itself.
