Wide expanses of desert provide the backdrop for Viktoryia Vinnikava’s photographs. Born in Belarus, Viktoryia lived in the United Arab Emirates for 12 years, and the ways in which light and color are reflected in its desert environment along with her technical mastery over her camera and equipment are the basis of her images. In her work, Viktoryia uses her imagination and mathematical mind to both accurately reveal reality and to turn that reality into strikingly abstract graphic patterns. “I start seeing so many beautiful details of ordinary things which the naked eye can't see,” the artist says, and by capturing those details, she creates a world that transforms and reimagines the landscapes she records. With a sharp eye for light and shadow and a subtle knowledge of how to highlight the variety of the desert’s color palette, Viktoryia gives each of her images a strong sense of visual counterpoint, instilling them with movement and life. She takes her appreciation of “the magical desert and its warm beauty” and in her photographs she makes us see it as well.Exhibition Dates: April 26, 2016 – May 17, 2016Reception: Thursday April 28, 2016, 6:00pm – 8:00pmGallery Hours: Tues-Sat 11:00am – 6:00pmGallery Location: 530 West 25th St, Chelsea, New YorkEvent URL: http://www.agora-gallery.com/artistpage/Viktoryia_Vinnikava.aspxFeatured Artists:Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art PhotographyArtura Photo Art | Iryna Brown | Charley Fazio | Karl Girardet | Goodash | Stephane Lieben | Yvonne Lu | Claude MacBurnie | Jessica Mastellone | Mary Pearson | Youssef Sefiani | Judy D. The exhibition casts a wide net to find the artists creating the most visually innovative work. There are landscape photographers who transform the terrain into a living, brightly colored being by testing the limits of digital cameras. There are detail photographers who work within contemporary languages – including genres as varied as minimalism, expressionism, and pop – to bring a new kind of photographic work to light. And there are portraitists, who dive deep into their subjects to present psychological studies as well. Innovators and purists alike will find new aesthetic ideas to wrestle with in the collection. These are all artists working with traditional subjects to create modern views of the world around them.
