In this painting, two females that respectivelysymbolized sacred love and profane love stayed on both sides of the picture. The background of each two women is a little different. The background of the sacredlove (on the left) is hill and village, and that of profane love is lake andtowns. They seem to be connected closely with the stone and trees in theforeground. Two women are portrayedexceedingly well: sacred love is manifested as seriously dressed woman, whileprofane love is a nude lady. The nude ladyis healthy, beautiful and glamorous, which can be regarded as the best workthat reflects the female beauty in the Renaissance art. Sacred andProfane Love was painted inabout 1514. It is said that this painting was commissioned by Niccolò Aurelio tocelebrate his new marriage. Therefore, it seems that one of two women on thepicture is the bride and the other is the Venus.
