May be you arent aware but it was one of the first equipments that worked like the present day 3D glasses. If you have watched 3D movies surely you have used the special glasses but have you ever cared how they work? Perhaps you cared and this is why you are reading this article! Well, 3D glasses work along with the 3D movies in a special way that creates a kind of illusion for your brain and eyes which then lets you view a three dimensional image. If you want to view an image in 3D it is essential for your eyes to view a little different picture. And to have it done your eyes are spaced apart which leads to a slightly different view by the eyes. The two pictures that each of the eyes view individually are then put together by the brain. Thus, the image you get to see turns into a 3D image with certain depth. This is the same concept on which View Master or a stereoscopic viewer works. This concept actually utilizes the natural binocular vision system of human beings. This vision system lets us know quite easily and accurately how far away any object is placed. If we look at the thing with one eye well still be able to make out the distance but with diminished accuracy where as looking at the things using both the eyes will get us more accurate result. When we look at the thing with our eyes they are seen from slightly different angles or perspective but our brain correlates the images before presenting them to us. 3D glasses also do the same they present the images to our individual eyes from slightly different angle which are then correlated by our brain before we can finally see them.Systems Used: the two common systems used by the glasses to provide us with the adventure of 3D movies are:Polarization: At several 3D venues like Disney World, Universal, etc. polarized lenses are used. These are expensive but highly efficient 3D viewing lenses as they let you view the film in color. In this method two polarized views are projected on a screen by two synchronized projectors. Now when you wear the glasses only one image enters into your individual eyes, this happens because the lenses of the glasses are also polarized.Red-Green / Red-Blue Glasses: When you watch 3D movies on a TV screen, polarized glasses dont help and therefore, you need to wear either Red-Green or Red-Blue glasses. In this case, two images, one in red, and the other in blue or green are displayed on the screen. At the same time, the Red-Green/Red-Blue glasses that you wear have special filters that let only one image enter in your individual eyes and the rest of the work is done by your brain. But these glasses dont get you a very good quality picture as the polarized glasses get. There are other sophisticated systems also that allow you to view 3D movies but they are quite expensive and not very easily available. One such system is LCD glasses. These glasses keep blocking the view of your eyes in rapid succession and bring you a high quality colored viewing.
