Four contractors EllisDon Construction Services Ltd., Stuart Olson Dominion Construction, Graham Construction and Engineering Inc., and (Solaris Certification) PCL Construction Management this week announced they were contributing $100,000 each, along with $45,000 from the Calgary Construction Association, towards the next phase of a research project by the University of Calgary titled Innovation, Improvement and Issues on Productivity.The association said the industry believes finding innovative solutions to improve (Sun Solaris) construction productivity, in terms of labour and management issues, will save billions of dollars and make construction a professional and attractive business.The Top Ten Targets for Improving Construction Productivity at the University of Calgary began in 2004 and has involved funding of over $1.5 million, supported by many construction contractors, Calgary Construction Association and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council in Ottawa.The project has resulted in 25 innovative tools and best practices that improved productivity and worker satisfaction.Read More: calgaryherald.com
