Just as the conventional classroom teachers have different ways of handling their students, elearning online courses have the different styles too. Just because virtual learning leans more on self-discipline because it incurs self-study and a flexible session time, it does not necessarily mean that there is no strain or variance in learning. The different styles of elearning online courses were primarily made for students who study in groups. The purpose of the cyber courses was to handle and deal with the problems of group interactions and as well as with the different schedule each student has. It is really hard to get an instructor in the middle of the night and find a group other similar students who are taking the same electronic course. It also equally difficult to take on self-directed courses if you are working alone. And so, various styles were created for this purpose. The styles are based on how the student feels about the course to meet the needs of the different types and preferences of users. Self Directed LearningThis style of activity is for those students who study, work and learn more effectively when they are alone. The user will be given materials to work on through the Internet and will do the tasks in his own way. This is particularly characterized with having no instructor or any other student to interact with. The learning on this platform is not a schedule in any way is available as on demand at any given time. Synchronous LearningThe synchronous learning style, which is more common than the self-directed style, involves other students an instructor. All of which are connected and are present at one single, regular time. Simply put, the traditional classroom setting only that the class is taken online and everyone is connected through a video conference. As while it sounds very easy to acquire, the problem with such setting is that the students come from different time zones and so the time is usually set on a regular time. The bandwidth and internet connection may also be a concern since not everyone is plugged in using the same cables. The platform is particularly characterized by its collaborative nature where everyone gets the chance to talk and discuss the topic at hand. And since it is instructor-led, the interaction makes it possible to strengthen the learning absorbed by the students.Asynchronous LearningThe asynchronous learning style is specifically recognized as a learning style almost similar to the synchronous learning style only that the students are not in session at the same time. This is identified as when there is no immediate communication with the instructor or any other students in the course. Think of it as there is one classroom filled with students but the teacher is lecturing this student one person at a time. The good thing about this type of style is that students are able to schedule their study time at a convenient point during their day. This has more flexibility compare to the synchronous style.
