However The US were the prime country which rejected the Treaty and there were considerable reasons for such decision. Then President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, was one of those who strongly influenced the creation of the League of Nations. President Wilson was said to have discussed the document first in public addresses and then met informally with the Committee of the House at a dinner conference at the White House. This was highly criticized by the Republican Senators or the opposition because of the fact that the document which pertained to the League of Nations was not taken directly to the Senate who then had its session. Neither was the Senates advice taken as regards to the document. Another was the issue of the recommended amendments to the treaty. The Committee on Foreign Relations then suggested to have forty five amendments and four reservations which aimed to isolate the United States from any responsibility in executing the political and economic provisions of the treaty in Europe. These reservations were intended to protect in every conceivable way the American sovereignty from the League of Nations. More and more reservations were added or the so-called Lodge reservations, that all the more stressed the American sovereignty and to which President Wilson did not approve. The reason for his non-approval was because of the effect of such reservations in overhauling the whole treaty and eventually nullifying it instead of ratifying the said treaty. This then did not persuade the opponents of the President into ratifying the treaty and thus a rejection of the League of Nations.
