Theytake the form of B+ trees, indexed alphabetically by the name of the file toenable fast searches.When a file is deleted the OperatingSystem marks the file name in the MFT with a special character that signifiesto the computer that the file has been deleted. Thecomputer now looks at the clusters occupied by that file as being empty andtherefore available space to store a new file. The operating system does not goand wipe the contents of these clusters. The files are still there, but OSdoesnt know it. So when a data is deleted from thedesktop or the recycle bin, it is possible to store it with the help of FAT andNTFS file system, but, you have to be sure that the data is undamaged and notencrypted.
