Gone are those times when the companies and the organisations didn't need a hi-tech system to handle them. We are not trying to make this article to be sort of commercial or press release, it is just the observation, based on our 12 years old Great Plains Accounting, Great Plains Dynamics, Microsoft Dynamics GP and SAP Business One consulting practice (where we started with GPA and then added Great Plains Dynamics business line in 1995 and SAP B1 line in 2005). This is the final fact, that you cannot get new GPA modules or additional users from current successor (Microsoft Business Solutions, as Great Plains Software was acquired by Microsoft earlier this century). GPA support by Great Plains Software expired in the beginning of the 21 century and if you are still deploying Great Plains Accounting in your organization - you could get advantages of relatively inexpensive support in GPA functional and technical consulting, plus in data recovery. Please read our GPA pluses and minuses describing paragraphs:1.GPA support is now (and historically) expired (actually back to 2002) and there is no pressure for you from Microsoft Dynamics GP (former Great Plains Dynamics or GPA) partners to upgrade or in fact to migrate from Great Plains Accounting to Microsoft Dynamics GP 11.0 or 10.0. Also there was a popular GPA migration route from Great Plains Accounting 9.5 to Microsoft Small Business Financials 9.0 (but due to the fact that SBF product line was discontinued and the last version was 9.0 - you do not hear cold calls from Dynamics GP Resellers on migration suggestions). You as GPA Corporate ERP deploying company could enjoy the fact that nobody annoys you with sales calls, but your Accounting System is transferrable to new Microsoft Windows platforms: Windows 2003 R2, Windows XP, Vista, keep reading the next paragraph2.Great Plains Accounting for DOS redeployment on Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 Server or Windows XP Workstation (assuming that you only need GPA for single user). For the GPA customers information - you can move your Great Plains Accounting database from such platforms as Novell, Windows NT, Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Server or even to Windows 2008 (we are in process of testing for this option, please check with us in few months, currently we are in February 2010). Typically GPA migration to 2003, XP or Vista is recommended on Pervasive SQL 200 Service Pack 3 platform, where you have to alter default DB setting in Pervasive Control Center3.Great Plains Accounting support calls handling. For you to feel the support call scenarios. We have experienced GPA consultants in staff and we have access to Microsoft Business Solutions GPA Technical Support database. This Database allows us to match your GPA problem or issue with the known issues of Great Plains Accounting (when it was in active support phase by Great Plains Software)4.GPA on Windows 7. We are making final tests, and we should be able to provide Microsoft Windows 7 Great Plains Accounting for DOS deployment instructions soon (expected in March 2010)5.Please, feel free to call us 1-866-528-0577 [email protected]
