Gone are those times when the companies and the organisations didn't need a hi-tech system to handle them. With its AC adapter, the MacBook hits the road at 6 pounds portable, although not exactly lightweight. When the sleek and sexy MacBook launched, many hailed it as the excellent balance of productivity and artful design. If you think thats all it got, you are not right, the MacBook has lots of attributes under its casing. While the new MacBook isn't a total overhaul of the earlier version, Apple's upgrade features a better processor, better 802.11n Wi-Fi performance, and longer battery life. Although the new features are not enough for convincing existing MacBook owners to purchase a new one, its a good choice for an all purpose notebook.Unibody, Apple's preferred word, is a bit of a misnomer, cause of the bottom panel is split, also lid and display are made up by different parts. This MacBook is completely silent in terms of noise or creaks. Although the placstic hinge on this model is more fragile than the hinges on the Aluminum models, its not useless. All MacBooks use a magnetich latch to keep lid closed instead of a LCD latch mechanism. White plastic polycarbonate is used on this model, the material that we know for a long time now. Just like its earlier versions (of which I owned three generations) build quality is hit and miss. There are small gaps where panels come together, and the battery still sticks out a wee bit. I can say construction of a plastic chassis is harder than the metal ones.Apple choosed building MacBook laptops not from metal, from a single chunk of polycarbonante, the though stuff we all have been using for a long time; from CDs to bulletproof windows, from Nalgene bottle to MacBooks now. When inspected from all around the chassis, the polycarbonate could make a second-rate laptop feel very fragile, but on MacBook it feels tough. The same solidification that happened on the MacBook Pro carries right over to plastic version, and we love it just the same. The 13.3-inch display, at 1,280x800, is now LED backlit (making that a usual feature across the all Apple laptop lineup), which is better for both energy consumption and environmental concerns. Yet, they are not the same as more expensive Pro models, you need to pay more money to get a better display.Other points of differentiation include the lack of an SD card slot and a backlit keyboard and one forward-looking change we'd like to see is a move to 16:9 displays, which are quickly becoming an industry standard. The MacBook's 13.3-inch wide-aspect display is just about the perfect size: it's large enough for watching movies or working with two windows open side by side, still its small enough to allow you to put and airplane table on your lap. It's also incredibly bright (measurements show 230cd/m² which is above average), also the 1.280x800 display resolution provide the perfect screen detail for this size of display. In a first for an Apple laptop, the MacBook offers a glossy screen for starker contrast and more intense color, though in bright environments, the glossy coating results in more glare. We're not typically fans of Chiclet-style keyboards, which always seem to lack the satisfying click of traditional models, but Apple's is one of the best in the business.FireWire fans should note that the port has finally left the building. This would be a good chance to place an SD card slot just like on MacBook Pro, but they didn't.When we look at Apple MacBook's performance, it's not bad but the point is there are faster laptops with just about the same cost. None of them have what are the MacBook's best features; OS X and iLife. The Apple MacBook ran for 5 hours and 42 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, which is about 30 minutes longer than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and nearly an hour longer than the previous white MacBook. By having advantage of using Intel's low voltage powered processor, Toshiba's Satellite T135-S1310 lasted 30 minutes more than the Apple Macbook and hit the six hours mark.
