Following on from the success of their HD2 model, HTC have now released their first 'mini' phone. The HTC HD Mini takes nearly all of the features found in the previous HD2 and shrinks the main touch screen down from a massive 4.3 inches to 3.2 inches making for a far more pocket friendly phone. The HTC HD Mini has now been made available as a SIM Free handset, this means that it is unlocked to all network operators allowing you to insert either a Pay As You Go or contract SIM card and retain your current mobile number and any contacts that you have saved to the card. The SIM Free HD Mini is a great way to own this model without being tied to just one network as with contract deals, it also means that this latest HTC phone can be purchased as a present for others as well as making for a great replacement for a lost or stolen handset. One other big advantage of SIM free phones is that there are no credit checks as with pay monthly deals, if you struggle to gain a contract deal from the networks due to a poor credit rating then the SIM Free HTC HD Mini is a good solution. This new HTC phone runs on Windows 6.5.3 and offers a number of new software enhancements from the manufacturer, on the reverse of the handset is a 5.0 mega pixel camera with autofocus and a removable back cover.Unlike the HTC HD2 the HD Mini is powered by a 600MHz processor rather than the whopping 1Ghz of the previous model, you may think this is a step down, however with the smaller screen size this new mini edition does not need the processing power required by the HD2.Other features of this new phone include GPS with an internal digital compass, 3.5G data support for fast internet connections, WiFi, FM Radio and media player with a 3.5mm audio jack for using standard headphone sets. There are a number of new phones on the market offering a similar 3.2 inch touch screen, these include the recently released Nokia X6 and Nokia N97 Mini, Samsung Omnia 2 and Sony Ericsson Vivaz. Other competition comes in the form of the Motorola Milestone which packs in an extra qwerty keyboard, the Nokia N900 for the same reason and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 which offers a better feature set but is a more expensive phone.HTC's own range has just born two new models powered by the Android system as competition to Windows based devices, these include the HTC Desire and HTC Legend with the Legend offering the same 3.2 inch touch screen and 5.0 mega pixel camera as the HD mini.
