Prominent people are some of the individuals that are most engaged in using translation services. In addition, even Presidents can sometimes create a scene wherein they are caught in confusing reactions. Well, yes, it happens sometimes to everybody, but it is kind of odd and a bit funny. Since leaders are powerful and prominent, we expect that they should hire a professional translator.Communication without absorbing the meaning of every bit of every line and or, without using an appropriate and proper translation is a big no in this type of public situation. The Chinese President went on a four day visit to the United States to meet and have discussions with the U.S President. However, during the press conference, both parties were hilariously gone with the wind or they were lost in communication, because the translation and interpreting services were not ideal and professional. The translation from English to Chinese and back led to several instances of awkward pauses and mistakes. Due to the poor quality of interpreting services in the White House press conference, both Presidents were lost in translation and failed to answer correctly the questions of the media.President Obama was surprised that the conference or the questions of the reporters were in the form of consecutive interpreting. Well, the Chinese President wanted it to be interpreted consecutively. The process of interpreting leaves long pauses between statements from the Presidents and the reporters. On the other hand, the U.S President wanted it in the simultaneous interpreting process. One of the most embarrassing ordeals during the press conference was when one of the reporters asked a question about human rights. The question was addressed to both leaders and the U.S President answered the question first. However, the Chinese President leaft the media high and dry by not answering the question. Can you imagine the situation, after the other leader answered the question; the reporters were waiting to hear from the Chinese leader about the question, but then sadly he was blank. In addition, through an interpreter, the Chinese President explained that he did not hear the question. The technical issue and difficulties of the Chinese interpreting services during the conference were not indeed the last ones. After the conference, the CEO of Coca-cola officially proposed a toast to the Chinese President using of course the Chinese language. However, the CEO failed to use the right term, he incidentally used kanpai, and it turns out that this is a Japanese term for a toast, and the Chinese term is ganbei. Translation and interpreting services often occur in press conferences; however, some people believe that the Coca-cola CEO was just hopelessly relying on the smartphone when he attempted to give a toast to the Chinese leader. This only reminds us that messages can entirely be lost in translation and garbled if a smart and professional human translator is not hired.
