Maruti Suzuki launched the first fully fledged SUV in the name of Ertiga. The new Ertiga with a price of Rs 5.89 lakhs to Rs 8.45 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) will take on the likes of the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra Xylo. It is available in seven colors, with safety features such ABS and front airbags for the top end ZDi which is the fully loaded variant. The Ertiga petrol has a 1.4-litre which produces 95PS of maximum power at 6000rpm and 130Nm of maximum torque at 4000rpm. The diesel is a 1.3-litre DDiS with VGT which produces 90PS of maximum power at 4000rpm and 200Nm of maximum torque at 1750rpm. The Ertiga has a mileage of 16.02kmpl for the petrol and an even better 20.77kmpl for the diesel. The Innova and Xylo have a much bigger engine capacity and also bigger in size than the Ertiga.The company however claims that it flew 30 engineers from the Indian team to Japan to evaluate the seat design and comfort levels as per the average Indian body proportions. Indian engineers also battled out the issue of leg space on offer with their Japanese counterparts."Ertiga is a major step forward for Maruti Suzuki. We will try and gain as much of volume (sales) as possible with Ertiga," S. Nakanishi, managing director and chief executive, said at the global launch of the car here.
