Many people look at their teachers as the ones with all of the answers. In school, they are the people that the students look to in order to learn subjects like history, math, science and language arts. To some, it is unheard of for a teacher to know less than the students on any subject. When this does occur, however, they make it their business to make their mentor embarrassed.Jason had been an auto mechanic instructor for nearly 4 years, when he decided to open up his own school. Although he didn't have as much teaching experience as other school owners, he believed in his abilities. Besides, he had saved up the necessary funding. So, money was not an issue at all for him.Although he was the owner, Jason still worked as an instructor. So, during his very first class, he aimed to make everyone feel as if they were going to get the best education possible."I'm so excited about you all being here and I know you will come out as some of the top mechanics and auto shop workers in town," he said as everyone stared blankly at him.The room of mostly men was filled with people of all ages, ethnic groups and backgrounds. This is what excited Jason the most. After about a week or so, the students began to warm up to him. They had a lot of respect for Jason as they realized he was someone who was excellent at his job and really cared about their education. As a mechanic, one of the things he taught his students was that they should rarely ever have to go to someone to conduct maintenance on their vehicles."With all of the things I'm teaching and everything you're learning, there should be no reason for you to go to someone else to do something you can do yourself," Jason said. So, when one of the students saw him at the local oil change shop, he was extremely surprised."Mr. Jason, is that you?" asked his student.Startled, Jason quickly tried to come up with a response that wouldn't let his student know he was there for an oil change."Oh, hi," he said. "I'm just here looking for some stuff.""But this is an oil change place," said his student suspiciously. After about 2 minutes of finally convincing the student that he was there for something totally different, the student finally headed for the door to leave. Right before he walked out the door, however, an announcement came on the intercom."Jason Milsaps, your oil change is completed," the announcement said. "Please, come to the front counter."The student turned around and looked at his teacher in shock.Jason put his head down in shame and walked to the front counter, trying hard not to make eye contact with his student. For the rest of the year, he was teased as the instructor who couldn't do his own oil change.
