The company is on a complete war footing after its severed ties with theMahindra. The company had just launched the D-segment Renault Fluence and theKoleos SUV. The company now plans to release a slew of cars beginning with theunveiling of its small car for the Indian market, the Pulse. The car had adream debut and was launched at the eve of inaugural Indian F1 GP after therace in the evening at Delhi. The car was ignitioned by Formula 1 drivers MarkWebber and Karun Chandhok. The news of a Renault Small car was buzzing all around theauto markets in India. Sometimes it was the Renault Clio and then other timesit was the Renault Modus. Finally the bunny out of the hat was the Renault Pulse. The car is expected to share most of its dressing with the Nissan Micra. The car will be launched in the diesel fuel variant payingheeds to the current petrol prices and will be open to the public after itslimelight moment at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi. The car will be equipped witha 1.5-litre dCi engine. The same engine is powering the Micra, Fluence and eventhe likes of Nissan's recently launched Sunny sedan. The prospects of a petrolfuel option are also not being denied and it could be the one similar to thenice and torquey three-pot 1.2 litre engine from the Nissan Micra. The Pulse will be an entry level car but not cheap. The carwill have a high end positioning in the hatchback segment. The size dimensions of the car will besimilar to the Nissan Micra and it will be adorned with a host of featuresvying for the affluent urban buyer. Looking at these speculations, the marketpositioning and the features the car will have a price range of Rs 6-8 lakhacross petrol and diesel variants. The car will be priced a bit higher than theNissan Micra but will not look to fool itself like what the Honda Jazz did inthe initial launch. For the entire game plan of the Pulse though we will haveto celebrate the New Year and get tickets to the Auto Expo in Delhi. Renault is surely in no hurry in launching a small car andis planning everything to the hilt. The company currently is building upproduction facilities and trying to gauge its ability to handle the demands ofthe Indian audience. They are spreading their dealerships and service outletsto allow the brand to thrive. The car when launched will look to create a nicheaudience in the crowded premium hatch space based on design, price andpositioning. This means that it keeps the logistics simple and the Nissan Micraplatform should ward off any delivery troubles. The Pulse might not create alot of heart beats but will surely look to get a fair share of the market. TheRenault Pulse will compete against the likes of the highly competitive cars likeSuzuki Swift, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i20 and its Nissan Micra.
