Renault with help of Nissan after the just concluded inaugural Formula OneGrand Prix in India has launched the Renault Pulse. Renault has taken full tollof the event to showcase how it is able to transfer its formula 1 capabilitiesto on road vehicles. The Renault Pulse is a newly reborn Nissan Micra whichopened its eyes after the race on the Saturday, 29th October in Noida. The carwas flagged off by Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber and Team Lotus Renaultsdriver Karun Chandhok. Currently Renault has plans of launching five cars in theupcoming year and a half. Initially the Pulse will come only in the diesel fueloption. As of now Renault has two cars in its Indian kitty, namely the RenaultFluence Sedan and the Koleos. With Fluence, Renault has decided to showcase itsdiesel engine variant and with the Koleos a new breed of SUV. So, the Renaultand diesel combo seems to go on for the Pulse model too. The Pulse Hatchback will make its public appearance at theDelhi Auto Expo in January 2012. The front portion of the Nissan Micra has beentweaked to allow for the design and style statements of the Renault trademark. The Pulse will be equipped with a 1.5 litre K9K common rail diesel engine thatdelivers up to 65Bhp of peak power and 160 Nm of peak torque. The insides ofthe Pulse are also copied from the Nissan Micra. In fact the Pulse is born outof the same V-platform of the Nissan Micra. The making of the Pulse will happenat the Oragadam manufacturing plant near Chennai. The Renault is targeting the top end segment in thehatchback segment and will be suited to the urban audience. The Renault Pulselike most of the Nissan Micras features will also have the USP of a high fuelefficiency of 23 KMPL as per ARAI. The main of difference between the two cars will be themarket positioning of the cars. The Renault Pulse will be positioned at ahigher level compared to the Nissan Micra. This means that the Renault willalso cost more than the usual hatchback. However, the car will arrive with alot of bells & whistles. It is expected to come with driver and passengerairbags, ABS, climate control, keyless entry, start and stop button, andsteering mounted controls etc. Looking at the market positioning and the not so all outsales approach it is clearly evident that the company is not planning to selloff 5000-6000 cars every month but will look to have a slow and steadyapproach. The company is well aware of the challenges in India and will look totighten its operations and see to it that there is minimum loss of resourcesand time. Thus the company will look to create a solid platform for the launchof the Renault Pulse and hope that sales figures will eventually happen if theyhappen to deliver on the demands of the customers.
