Many people often expound on the virtues of avoiding the used car market. They claim that buying used cars automatically makes them unsafe, or that you wont get the best possible deal, etc. But many people dont realize that used cars can be just as safe as brand new cars. Yes its true that a used car is naturally going to wear out sooner than a new one, but many people would be surprised to find that even used cars can be reliable for quite a while, possibly even as long as you would have a new car until you decide to trade in for the next model. And theres one key factor that those who would cringe at the thought of buying used have not thought through completely, and thats the price of the vehicle. There is a common misconception out there that used cars arent safe. It is true, that some used cars may not be safe, but that shouldnt stop consumers from considering used cars at all. Plenty of used cars can be very safe to drive, all you have to do is be careful and know what youre buying. The best way to make sure youre getting a decent used car is to buy from a dealership. Dealerships have the resources to have the vehicle inspected from top to bottom to make sure they arent selling you something thats going to get you in an accident. Dealerships, unlike private car owners, have a personal stake in making sure that their vehicles dont cause you to have an accident because they want to make sure you will come back after youve finished with that vehicle and buy your next used or maybe even a new car from them the next time. If people know theyve been sold something unsafe, word of mouth will have customers running for the hills.Along those same lines, many people believe that nearly all used cars are not necessarily unsafe, but that they are lemons and will stop working after a few short months from the purchase date. And just as with vehicles that are unsafe, there are some lemons out there, but the key is still to be careful about where you purchase your used vehicle. I can personally attest to the horror that is buying a used car from the wrong source. My very first vehicle was a used truck that seemed to be in fine condition. The previous owner even guaranteed me that he had just put a brand new engine in this vehicle. And for the first month that I drove the car all was well. But after that month the electric wiring started to short out and I was left driving at night when my lights suddenly went out. After we had that fixed, I came out of a store one day and entered the parking lot to find that my muffler was lying on the ground underneath my vehicle. Shortly after that I lost a screw to the drive shaft and had to replace the entire shaft. And finally in the end, after pumping all my money into having this vehicle repaired over and over again, the head gasket blew and I was left with no vehicle and only the $200 I received for selling the vehicle for parts. But the problem with this story is not that I purchased a new car, its that I purchased a used car from an unreliable source. I purchased this vehicle from someone who was trying to pass off a lemon as a decent vehicle so that they could get the car off of their hands. A good dealer can afford to check out their vehicles extensively before they decide to sell them to consumers. A good dealer would never try to pass off a lemon as a decent vehicle. Plenty of people can purchase used vehicles that last for years. And lastly, one thing that critics of used car buying dont consider often enough is the cost of buying a used versus a new car. Critics like to claim that buying the used car isnt worth the cost because you may be able to get some new cars for only a little bit more. What these critics fail to understand is that that little bit isnt always just a little bit. In these hard economic times, sometimes consumers just cant afford the extra cash. Even if the difference between a used and a new car may seem small to some, others may not be able to afford a car at all if they have to pay one penny over the price of the used car. And some critics still argue that even if this is the case, used cars still cost more in the long run because of the increased need for repairs to the vehicle. This is simply untrue. While used cars may indeed need more repairs than a new car will they can still save the consumer money over time for several reasons. Used car parts can be less expensive than some new car parts. Ill admit that this one varies wildly though. Some new car parts are more expensive to manufacture and therefore will cost more money than used car parts. However in the interest of fairness, some used car parts are no longer manufactured so they become difficult to find, therefore hiking up the price. This all really depends on what kind of vehicle you are purchasing, so be sure to ask us about getting a car that will save money in the long run when you come down to check out our excellent selection of used vehicles. Another way that used cars can save consumers money over time is that vehicles that are past a certain age dont have to pass emissions standards, That means that if an emissions part breaks down on an old vehicle, the consumer doesnt have to get it repaired if they cant afford to. Along those same lines, used vehicles will save consumers money every month when they receive their car insurance bills. Insurance for used vehicles is much lower than the insurance cost of a new vehicle. There are definitely some excellent reasons why consumers shouldnt shy away from the thought of purchasing a used vehicle. Used vehicles can be perfectly safe, they wont necessarily need more repairs or break down sooner than a new vehicle, and they can save consumers money. But there are also definitely some good reasons for buying new as well. Buying used isnt for everyone but neither is buying new. Be sure to check out your local dealership if you are considering purchasing a new or used vehicle. They can help you decide on which one is right for you!
