Here are first impressionsof what is quite Figo-ratively a hugely impressive car.The 1.4-litre Duratorq diesel we know well. It behaves very much like it does in theFigos siblings. By this we mean the Figos got superb drivability, fantasticlow and mid-range response for city driving but feels a bit out of breath onthe highway, thanks to its modest 68bhp. We know this engine is fuel efficientand very smooth, slightly audible by modern diesel standards and it is nowBharat IV compliant.Theres also a new 1.2-litre Duratec petrol thatsessentially a scaled down version of the engines that power the Fiesta and theFusion. It makes a decent 70bhp, is tractable and has good mid-rangeperformance. But, unlike the Fiesta motor, it doesnt feel as happy as thetop-end. It starts feeling strained at around 5000rpm, and labours to its6600rpm redline. Peak torque of 10.4kgm isnt as good as the K-series engine inthe Ritz either. Still, the overall, the package is well tuned for a 1.2 motor.Performance, as expected, is average. Fords claimed 0-100kph figures are 15.5seconds for the petrol variant and 15.8 seconds for diesel models.The Figos got great big-car feel. The ride is one of thebest in class, good at both low and high speeds. Its very stable at threedigit speeds and you can see Fords drivers car DNA in it. The steering islight and nicely weighted for city use; though theres not much feel at speed,its still nice and accurate.The Figo is one of the biggest B-segment cars in India. Itslonger than the Swift, has a longer wheelbase than the Fusion. Interior spaceis good, but not great, especially at the rear. Still, the seats make up bybeing very supportive, and seat height and back support are good as well. Rearseat comfort is especially good and Ford has made good use of the leg roomunder the front seats.Were not sure if we like the coral colours used on thedashboard, but the faux aluminum trim does look good and the cabin has sportyovertones with red stitching on the black seats.Ford has priced the Figo on par with its rivals with thebase petrol 1.2 LXI retailing at Rs 4.12lakh (on-road Mumbai), rising up to Rs5.20lakh for the top-end Titanium variant. The diesel Figo prices start at Rs5.23lakh for the base 1.4 LXI, with the top-of-the-line Titanium variant goingup to Rs 6.20lakh. The hot hatch also comes with a two year warranty. Sotheres lots of promise here.Our Opinion: The Ford Figo is on the larger side of ahatchback and looks like a flick of the European Fiesta. Ford has really put ina lot of effort to make the Figo as competitive as possible with its price andtheir marketing position seems to be a well thought out plan. The Overall looksare the trademark Ford style with traces of the Fiesta and the Fusion. The FordFigo is the available in both the diesel and petrol version and looks all setto be a good competitor in the market.
