You carry it in your pocket, or purse, or pack because there are times when out side of the home, you need some cutting, or slicing power. The nice thing about pocket knives, is they are relatively easy to sharpen, and keep in good shape so that they can give to you the service intended, at a moments notice. All you need to plan a sharpening session for your pocket knife is a set of sharpening stones, and knife sharpening lubricant. Your stones really do the labor when sharpening a pocket knife. And so for a pocket knife, you should at least pick up a two sided stone. Coarse side, and fine sided. There is a brand found easily online named bearmoo. Yeah it’s bearmoo. You will easily see it on amazon, and they have two in one stones starting at around $20. As for sharpening oil, norton oil starts at around $8.So let’s talk about the work. First you will start with the coarse side of the stone, assuming your knife is dull. Apply a thin layer of lubricant to the stone. Using about a 15 degree angle, apply the blade to the rough side of the stone, and stroke the stone with the knife edge. Apply just moderate pressure, you do not need to push hard. It is best to do in one direction only, and i suggest you push the knife moderately across the stone away from you, and then lift the knife straight up. Bring the knife back to the starting position, and repeat. It is important to keep the same angle throughout the push, and this skill gets easier over time. It is best to do the stroke ten times. Then do the other side of the blade edge the exact same way.Once you have completed the process on both sides of the blade edge with the coarse stone, you can then turn the stone over to the fine side. Again, lightly lubricate the fine side of the stone, and then repeat the same steps as was done with the coarse side. Push the blade edge moderately in one direction across the fine stone, repeating the process ten times, and then the other side of the blade edge as well.At the end, simply wipe the oil off of your knife, and do not use any water for this step. Just wipe the knife clean, and you will be done. It is always great to watch a you tube video if you are a first timer, and get some visual idea of the techniques discussed in this post.
